Man Utd transfer round-up: Solskjaer offers window update and Goretzka move latest – The Mirror

After enduring a couple of frustrating transfer windows that led to mad deadline day dashes, Manchester United have been committed to getting their big business done early.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was adamant that his side would need to improve this summer, if they were to close the gap on champions Manchester City.

The £73million move for Jadon Sancho was their top priority, while they are closing in on the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

That will put United’s summer spends in excess of £100m, but fans remain hopeful there could be even more additions.

There are also likely to be some departures before the window closes at the end of the month.

With that in mind, here are the latest Manchester United transfer rumours:

Solskjaer’s latest stance

Solskjaer claims any further arrivals after Varane would be a bonus

The Norwegian has spoken to the press with just one week until his side’s Premier League campaign kicks off against Leeds at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer has confirmed that the deal to bring Varane to the club is progressing well and should be completed by next week.

He also hinted that the Frenchman could be the last to come in this summer, claiming they have achieved their main targets in the window.

“Anything from now is a bonus,” Solskjaer said. “I have to say that, with the two signings we’ve got, we’ve strengthened where we wanted to strengthen.

“Let’s see what happens. You never know in football.”

Goretzka Bayern talks ‘advanced’

Manchester United continue to be linked with Leon Goretzka, but he could be closing in on a new Bayern Munich contract, according to reports in Germany.

Goretzka is set to become a free agent next summer, meaning the Bundesliga champions could be forced to sell in order to get a fee.

Earlier this year it had been suggested that contract talks were at an impasse, potentially opening the door for United.

However, BILD now claim that the latest round of negotiations went positively and that a new deal could now be on the horizon.

New Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann has made it clear that he wants the midfielder to stay at the Allianz and that is now looking a more realistic option.

Juve in the race for Pogba

Reports in Italy claim that Juventus could make a move to bring Paul Pogba back to Turin this season.

Pogba has just 12 months remaining on his current United contract with suggestions that he has turned down their latest offer for an extension.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have both been linked, but Calciomercato suggest that the Old Lady will be willing to bide their time in an attempt to negotiate a cut-price deal later in the window.

They are aware they wouldn’t be able to compete with the financial package on offer from PSG and so would rather wait and see if he is available at the deadline.
