Manchester City receive fitness boost ahead of Chelsea tie as Pep Guardiola handed conundrum – Football.London

Chelsea’s task against Manchester City might be set to get even harder this weekend with Pep Guardiola having been handed a considerable triple boost.

The Blues host the reigning Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge on Saturday with the aim of continuing their respective challenge as they sit top of the table and ahead of Liverpool by courtesy of alphabetical order.

It goes without saying then that the meeting in west London could well be an early indicator of the two sides’ intentions for the rest of the campaign.

And the visitors have been handed some positive news regarding the fitness of some of their key stars.

In photos shared by City themselves, they appear to show Rodri, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones all back in full training ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge.

For various reasons, the trio had been ruled out, with none of them having played a part in the club’s victory against Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.

Midfielder Rodri was left on the sidelines recently, both against Wycombe and for last weekend’s Premier League clash with Southampton due to a problem but if the club’s training session is anything to go by, he is set to be fit.

Meanwhile, central defender Laporte was also left out of the previous two games with a reported groin issue but he too looks likely to return sooner rather than later.

Pep Guardiola’s options in defence are also bolstered by John Stones, who returned from international duty with a muscle problem.

He is yet to feature for Manchester City yet this season but could be in action against Chelsea this weekend as he attempts to deal with the conundrum that is the in-form Romelu Lukaku.

Guardiola is expected to reveal more on the three players later this week in his pre-match press conference but the early signs certainly look promising for City as they prepare to take on Chelsea.
