Neville pinpoints key positions to strengthen
Gary Neville has outlined the positions Manchester United need to strengthen in this summer’s transfer window.
Neville, who will play for England during September’s Soccer Aid for UNICEF, believes the Reds need to add a defender to get to the next level.
And despite Edinson Cavani signing a new contract to keep him at Old Trafford until next summer Neville thinks United need reinforcements in the forward department as well. This is what he said:
“They definitely need a centre-back to go with Harry Maguire. Although I think the back four has done well, I think the defence has done well but they’re at an absolute maximum where they are.
“I think Aaron Wan-Bissaka is improving weekly and is getting better. I think if Luke Shaw can stay fit he’s the best and always has been in terms of talent.
“With Harry Maguire they’ve got someone who is incredibly reliable and can lead the team, I just think that another centre back comes in and completes that back four.
“Up front is an issue. Over the last few years, we’ve never had a fixed right-winger, I think left’s okay with Marcus Rashford. You could argue is Mason Greenwood a right-winger?
“That’s the question is he a right winger or is he a centre forward? If he’s a centre-forward in the long term, Manchester United need a right-winger. If Mason Greenwood is a right-winger, they need a centre-forward.”
