Manchester United player ratings: Anthony Elanga and Andreas Pereira good vs Brentford – Manchester Evening News

Tom Heaton

Had no chance with Shandon Baptiste’s strike. Vocal again on his first Old Trafford appearance for United since 2007. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Much improved in attack and assisted Anthony Elanga’s opener. Much better than in previous games. 7

Axel Tuanzebe

Clearly lacking confidence. Played stray passes at times and lacked composure with a clearance. Needs a loan to regain confidence. 6

Teden Mengi

Another start with United’s stellar centre halves still away and fared reasonably against Championship top scorer Ivan Toney. 6

Brandon Williams

A buccaneering half at left-back. Supported the attack eagerly but prone to some needless play-acting. 6

Andreas Pereira

Cannot expect to play at Old Trafford many more times and left the pitch with the memento of a phenomenal volleyed goal. 8

Nemanja Matic

Steady enough amid the possibility he could be in the XI against Leeds. Passing adventurous at times. 6

Mason Greenwood

Started on the right to accommodate Elanga and looks much more comfortable there than through the middle. 6

Juan Mata

Lined up again to bring seniority to the attack. Tidy enough without having a great influence on the match. 6

Jesse Lingard

Another bright performance to prolong a hitherto encouraging pre-season. Had attempts at goal in either half, the second leading to Pereira’s wonder strike. 7

Anthony Elanga

Perfect technique with his volley that put United 1-0 up and his fluidity stretched Brentford. Got a rest after an hour. 8

Diogo Dalot

Eager from the off on his first United appearance but culpable for the equaliser. 5

Facundo Pellistri

Urgent on the ball. 7

James Garner

Got more minutes. 6

Daniel James

Too weak too often. 6

Donny van de Beek

Forward-thinking. 6

Shola Shoretire

Late cameo out of position. 5

Hannibal Mejbri

Fouled immediately. 6
