When Manchester United signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton over the course of the summer transfer window, they were expected to be one of the frontrunners in the Premier League title race. And while that could still happen, the Red Devils’ recent performances have certainly raised some questions.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have only managed two wins from their previous six games. As a result, they have slipped down from first to fourth in the Premier League, are out of the League Cup already and find themselves in a tricky situation in their Champions League group.
One area that Manchester United have appeared to be a bit light on options in is the middle of the park and Paul Pogba’s future remains up in the air as well. And it looks like the club are prepared for all possible scenarios.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Calciomercato and as reported by The Sun, Manchester United have identified AC Milan’s Franck Kessie as a potential replacement for Pogba. They are believed to have stepped up their interest in the midfielder.
Manchester United linked with the AC Milan superstar
Kessie has emerged as one of the best midfielders in Serie A in recent years. While he has always been very highly rated, it appears that he has taken his game to the next level recently.
Thus, it goes without saying that he could be a tremendous addition to this Manchester United team, especially if Pogba ends up departing the club at the end of the season.
Interestingly, Kessie is also in the final12 months of his current deal with AC Milan and he will become a free agent at the end of the season if he does not end up signing a contract extension by then.
Manchester United are not the only club believed to be interested in signing Kessie though as he has recently been linked with clubs from all around Europe.
