Manchester United squad for Aston Villa FA Cup fixture revealed – Manchester Evening News

Victor Lindelof is back in the Manchester United squad ahead of their FA Cup third round tie against Aston Villa on Monday night.

The Sweden international could make his first appearance in a month after he missed the last three games with Covid-19.

But club captain Harry Maguire is still a doubt after he was not pictured by photographers arriving at the Hyatt hotel in Manchester on Monday afternoon.

Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dean Henderson, Anthony Martial and Phil Jones were also not spotted by MEN photographers, though they could still be playing and travelling separately to the ground or team hotel later on.

Ralf Rangnick’s side return to action at Old Trafford tonight and will be looking to put things right following defeat to Wolves in the Premier League a week ago.

United lost at home when they last faced Villa back in September and interim manager Rangnick has already hinted he will select a strong squad in hope of securing passage to the fourth round.

“For me, it’s a very important competition,” the interim manager said ahead of the match. “We will definitely try to play with our best possible team in that game and a strong team. We take the game as seriously as we can and hopefully get one round further ahead but in order to do that we have to be successful against Aston Villa.

“We know it will not be an easy game because, especially since they change managers, they have been doing well. They won four games and lost four games, three of them against the top team. It needs a top performance from us to be successful.”

There could still be a few fringe players involved, however, with Amad and Jesse Lingard among those pictured as part of the provisional match day squad.

Ivorian winger Amad is expected to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window with a host of Championship sides, and Dutch team Feyenoord, showing an interest in his signature.

Paul Pogba is missing from the squad again and he could face another month on the sidelines as he continues his rehabilitation from a groin injury suffered in November.

“As far as I know, I was told a week ago, it would be a minimum of at least another four or five weeks before he is fit for training again,” Rangnick told club media.

“I saw him this morning before the training session, he was in the locker room, and I hope he will be back as soon as possible.”

It has been confirmed that the winners of United versus Villa tonight will host Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
