Manchester United appoint new youth team coach
Manchester United have appointed Travis Binnion as their new Under-18 coach, with Neil Ryan to assist Neil Wood with the Under-23s.
Binnion previously worked with the Under-16s following his arrival from Sheffield United in November 2019. Binnion oversaw the development of Harry Maguire and Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Bramall Lane before he was brought to United by the academy head Nick Cox, who was also previously at Sheffield United.
Ryan replaced Kieran McKenna as the U18 coach three years ago but has moved up to the U23s for the new season. The U23 squad is expected to be younger than last season, with the majority of the older players scheduled to leave on loan.
United have planned for there to be more ‘flexibility’ between the U23s and U18s, with Ryan the obvious link between the two squads. Quinton Fortune, who assisted Wood, left to join Reading’s first-team coaching staff last year.
