Chelsea fans have been sent into a frenzy after Romelu Lukaku’s return to Stamford Bridge looks like it has been agreed.
Lukaku will be moving back to the club that has a special place in his heart, as Marina Granovskaia compromises on a reported £97.5million fee to prise away Serie A’s MVP from Italy.
It had been reported that the west London club’s intentions were to offer at least one player into the transfer operation, but Steven Zhang and co. were interested in a cash-only deal, according to Gazetta dello Sport.
A conference call today was the last act in Chelsea’s long-awaited quest to find a world-class striker this summer, with Italian duo Gianluca Di Marzio and Alfredo Pedulla claiming that a deal has now been agreed between the two parties.
The hints were prominent early on Saturday as news broke that the 28-year-old had requested to not play in the Nerazzurri’s next pre-season friendly against Parma, therefore eluding to the fact that the deal was very close.
But the latest confirmation has excited many Blues fans who can’t wait for the homecoming of the striker who was touted as Didier Drogba’s long-term heir.
This is how a different selection of Chelsea fans reacted on social media to the latest update on the Belgian talisman.
@iamsouren has praised one person in particular for this deal: ‘Marina u beauty…..genius..absolute genius of a mind…just 97.5 million pound..wowwww…’
@LxNox22 has also praised the Chelsea director: ‘Super woman, I will wait to hear the apologies to her to those who were calling her names.’
@sebthechels tweeted: ‘Seeing Tuchel being backed is the best thing we could witness being Chelsea fans.’
@Blackkuwait2 now wants the club to move on fast to their next target: ‘Now let’s get Kounde.’
@CFCIsh put: ‘HES COMING HOMEEEEE.’
@sazio1984 stated: ‘The fact that we’ve got him for less than £100m (£97m) is great in today’s market.
‘The fact that it’s sub-£100m, means that Lukaku will not be British football’s most expensive player. Which is even greater as there’s less pressure on him now.
‘Marina’s done it again.’
@ethanp10_ tweeted: ‘Going straight in my fpl team,’
Once this deal is announced, it doesn’t seem Roman Abramovich will waste any time as his board of directors will move on quickly to conclude a deal for centre-back target Jules Kounde, as per Fabrizio Romano.
football.london understands that the Blues are looking into doing a part-exchange deal to acquire the Frenchman’s services this summer, but that will require at least one Blues defender to vacate their position.
Kurt Zouma could well be heading for the exit door, with Granvoskaia keen to send him to Sevilla in return for their £68m defender.
