Former Liverpool star John Barnes thinks Martin Odegaard would be a “good signing” for the Reds, despite summer interest from Arsenal.
football.londonreported earlier this week that Real Madrid could sell the 22-year-old in this window, with the Spanish club preferring a permanent deal rather than another loan.
The Norway international has less than two years remaining on his contract in the Spanish capital and Madrid are aware that selling him over the next few weeks will be the best possible way of generating a sizeable fee for his services.
Real Madrid are likely to demand €50million (£42.6m) for Odegaard if he does leave the club, but the Norwegian has also been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Former Reds star John Barnes has been talking about the possibility of Klopp signing Odegaard this summer and said he would be a “good signing”, albeit an unrealistic one.
“Agents like to do that, to garner interest. I doubt very much that Martin Odegaard is coming to Liverpool.
“He’s a good player, but he’s at Real Madrid. I say this all the time: Mbappe would be great, Messi would be great, Haaland would be great.
“Odegaard is a good player, but I can’t see him coming to Liverpool. But if he does, he would be a good signing.”
Odegaard is an option for Arsenal, but Arteta is also a huge fan of James Maddison and the north London club are beginning to make moves for the Leicester City star.
The 24-year-old is ‘at the top of the list’ for Arsenal this summer, but a £60m fee is likely to be what the Foxes are demanding for his services, which could prove a sticking point for the Gunners.
But Arsenal have sounded out the possibility of signing Maddison by offering a player in the deal via intermediaries to make the offer more appealing.
