Michael Owen thinks Liverpool will be too strong for Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.

United have won just three of their last eight matches in all competitions, but come into Sunday’s match against the Merseyside club off the back a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Second-placed Liverpool are brimming with confidence after an emphatic 5-0 win over Watford last weekend, followed up by a crucial 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Star striker Mohamed Salah currently leads the league’s goal scoring table with seven goals in his first eight matches, including a fine sole effort against the Hornets last weekend.

And Owen believes the Egypt international will play a key role in an away win, but backs United to improve on their recent performances.

I can’t wait for this one. Man Utd were disappointing away at Leicester last week. They created some chances but defensively it was far too easy for Leicester to create chances and to play through the United press,’ he told BetVictor.

‘They looked too open for me, so Solskjaer will need to adjust the balance of this side.

‘There’s only one place to start when it comes to Liverpool, Mo Salah. He’s surely the best player in the world right now and that goal last week was sublime. He’s been virtually unplayable this season, so this is a huge ask for the United defence to keep him quiet.

‘United will no doubt play better than they did last week, but I still think the Reds can get the win. I’ll say 2-1, will Mo Salah be one of the scorers?’

Michael Owen’s predictions

Arsenal 1-1 Aston Villa

Chelsea 3-0 Norwich

Crystal Palace 2-1 Newcastle

Leeds 1-1 Wolves

Everton 3-1 Watford

Southampton 0-1 Burnley

Brighton 0-2 Manchester City

West Ham 2-1 Tottenham

Brentford 1-2 Leicester

Manchester United 1-2 Liverpool

Meanwhile, Owen thinks current league leaders Chelsea will be too strong for bottom-placed Norwich at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s early kick-off.

‘Chelsea rode their luck at times against Brentford and Edouard Mendy was exceptional in goal. No team can play at their best in every game, so for Chelsea to still claim the win really shows their quality this season,’ he added.

‘Norwich have still only scored two goals in the league, which is clearly nowhere near good enough. I thought before the season that they would score a lot of goals but concede a lot but right now they aren’t even scoring.

‘I can only see a comfortable Chelsea win here. I’ll say 3-0.’
