Mikel Arteta confirms Aaron Ramsdale transfer and explains why Arsenal fans are going to love him – Football.London

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal fans will grow to love goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners switched their attentions to a homegrown alternative for Bernd Leno several weeks ago, after initially making contact with the representatives of Ajax shot stopper Andre Onana.

Ramsdale will join for a fee of £24million plus £6million in add ons which are only achievable if he becomes the long-term number one.

“I think they’re [Arsenal fans] going to love his personality, his character, the quality that he has a goalkeeper and what he’s going to offer,” said Arteta.

“He has a huge, huge potential. It’s what we want, it’s always been the case a this club, we will have two different profiles and two different stages in their career. Aaron [Ramsdale] is a talented young keeper with huge experience and has international experience for England.

“He will bring competition and that’s what we want to create – healthy competition, quality competition in every position. We identified Aaron as the ideal option.”

Arteta also gave his reaction to the arrival of Martin Odegaard’s signing following confirmation that the Norway captain has signed for the club.

Asked about what Odegaard will bring to the team, the Spaniard said:

“A lot of things that he brought last season, he made us better, we needed more options and alternatives for creativity.

“He is still a really young man but he has huge experiences in clubs already and has unique talents for the way we want to play so I am really pleased the club have made the effort.”
