Mark Wyatt’s thoughts on the lineup
Patrick Vieira has been true to his word today by naming a strong starting XI to take on Millwall with.
The most exciting prospect is undoubtedly seeing Ebere Eze, Michael Olise and Conor Gallagher all play in the same team for the first time. It appears like Eze will come in off the left, with Gallagher keeping his place as the forward-thinking member of the midfield three.
Jean-Philippe Mateta is back starting up front in what some are suggesting could be his last game in a Crystal Palace shirt following continued links with a move to Ligue 1. He’ll have the chance to add to his two goals scored for the club today, though Vieira does have Odsonne Edouard and Christian Benteke on the bench if things need to change.
The midfield features Jeffrey Schlupp and Will Hughes alongside Gallagher. That trio doesn’t include a natural defensive midfielder so it will be interesting to see if Vieira wants them to alternate between themselves or if there will be more attacking emphasis on them this afternoon.
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Jack Wells-Morrison are both on the bench which is great to see. Rak-Sakyi already made his senior debut for the club on the opening day of the season but we could easily see another.
