A football hungry nation today witnessed domestic football in full force as the Normalisation Committee’s Special Women Competition (NCWSC) took place today. Tamale-based Pearlpia Ladies this afternoon hosted Prison Ladies at the Alhaji Alihu Mahama Sports stadium defeating the security service team narrowly.
Pearlpia Ladies, formerly known as Lepo Ladies is owned and bankrolled by national U-17 assistant coach Baba Nuhu. The Northern-based outfit rechristened from Lepo Ladies to Pearlpia Ladies before the Women’s League was truncated.
Attacker Safia Abdul Rahman grabbed a brace for the home side on the 24th minute mark and two minutes before half time to put Pearlpia in a comfortable lead before half time. Safia Abdul Rahman, was a member of the swashbuckling Black Maidens side which finished in the quarterfinals of last year’s tournament held in Uruguay.
Zabanu Edith Sasakor goal in the 77th minute proved only to be a consolation for the away side as they lost their first game. The win sends Pearlpia Ladies to the zenith of Group B as group opponents and heavyweights Ampem Darkoa Ladies will wrestle for supremacy against Abdulai Mukarama-led Northern Ladies tomorrow.
