Lily Niber Lawrence revealed their mental fortitude was the ingredient in securing a crucial win over Soccer Intellectuals to book a spot in the knockout round of the special competition.
Hasaacas Ladies defeated Soccer Intellectuals on match day six by 2-1 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals ahead of LadyStrikers and losers, Soccer Intellectuals.
Skipper Perpetual Agyekum broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute for the homesters before Evelyn Badu doubled the lead two minutes before half time, Linda Addae’s goal for Soccer Intellectuals was only good enough for a consolation as Hasaacas maintained the scoreline to take the all important three points.
Speaking with NBSportslive, she said:
“We came with a winning mentality so we were prepared (for the game).
“We were playing two matches simultaneously, we were playing our home match and the other game (in the group) at the same time.
“Because, the results that will come from there ( LadyStrikers vs Sea Lions) might go against us.
“So we had to do our maximum best to get the win and wait for the outcome of results in the other group game.”
A similar mental strength will be requited from the three-time National Women’s League to travel deep into the competition.
