Nigeria Super Falcons have confirmed Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala as the captain of the team ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifier against Ivory Coast.
The three times Africa female footballer of the year has been named the new captain of the Super Falcons, replacing En Avant de Guingamp Féminines’ Desire Oparanozie, who led the team at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in June to reach the knockout stage for the first time in two decades.
The change was announced by acting coach of the Falcons, Christopher Danjuma, on Tuesday in a video posted on the Falcons official Twitter page.In addressing the players, coach Danjumah, urged the Falcons to cooperate with their new captain – “We need you to be focused. You are in this squad because of your ability. The leadership of the Falcons has decided to change your leaders.
Oshoala is now your captain. As for the assistant captain, that will be dealt with later.”Oshoala will officially captain the Super Falcons on September 30th when they face the elephants of Ivory Coast in Tokyo 2020 CAF women’s Olympics qualifiers in Abidjan.
