As clubs continue to prepare for the 2019-2020 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL), pre season friendlies took centre stage at Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi, Benue state.
The tournament hosted by Naija Retels of Benue state saw four invited teams put up a splendid performance as they look forward to the new league season.
Match day one saw Edo Queens defeat 2019 Aiteo Cup Champions, Nasarawa Amazons 3-2. Ovie Ovoma put Nasarawa Amazons in front in the 18th minute before Grace Henry equalised for Edo Queens in the 54th minute.
The Goal rain continued before the end of the game as Temitope Owoeye’s goal for Edo Queens in the 65th minute was equalled by Adejoke Ejalonibu who equalised for Nasarawa Amazons four minutes later before Nneka Eke’s winning goal for Edo Queens.
Earlier before the Edo Queens, Amazons encounter, host Naija Ratel’s Ladies triumphed over Honey Badgers of Kaduna by three (3) unreplied goals.
The highest margin of scoreline was recorded in the day two of the tournament.
Aiteo Cup Champions, Nasarawa Amazons shook off their opening day defeat to demolish Honey Badgers of Kahuna’s wall by 6 goals to nil.
Two goals in 5 minutes from Amarachi Odoma (3 minutes) and Dooshima Tarnum (4 minutes) opened the gate of goals.
Three more first half goals from Chinwendu Egwuonu (brace 13′ and 18′), Bola Oladiti (27′) and Adejoke Ejalonibu (38′) completed the rout.
Meanwhile Edo Queens secured their second victory in the Championship with a 2-0 win over Naija Ratel. Osaghae Glory put scored the first goal for Edo Queens in the 41st minute. Osaghae Glory scored her second goal of the match in the 61st minute as she moved passed two opposing defenders before a cool finish.
It’s going to be a rematch as Nasarawa Amazons takes on Edo Queens in the final while host Naija Retels take on Honey Badgers in the third place match slated for Saturday 1st of February, 2020.
