A strong Edo State contingent made up of 93 Athletes, 8 Coaches and 7 Officials Thursday afternoon arrived Asaba from Benin City as the National Youth Games Zonal Elimination kicks off in the Delta State Capital from the 16th-19th of August 2019.

The South-South Zonal elimination which is the qualifiers for the National Youth Games billed for Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital in September is expected to be keenly contested amongst states like Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers for slots in ball games such as Basketball, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Rugby and Volleyball.

Departing from Benin-City early Thursday morning amidst pomp and style, the Athletes had the pleasure of welcoming the State’s Sports Commission Chairman Barrister Godwin Dudu Orumen who came with a goodwill message from the Deputy Governor of the State, Rt Hon, Philip Shaibu and a very elated team captain, Happiness Chukwuemaka assured the Government and the people of Edo State about their readiness to go all out for victory in the 7 sporting events.

“We have really prepared hard. The Government provided everything we needed and now it is time to bring back Edo State glory in sport. We shall not disappointment, the 15 year old Handball player assured the Sports Commission Chairman, Barrister Godwin Dudu Orumen who earlier had reminded the Athletes that Edo State is a force to reckon with in Sports in Nigeria and the standard must be maintained.

The 5th National Youth Games is billed for Ilorin, Kwara State from 7th to 17th September 2019.
