Ghana National women’s League side Police Ladies finished with a bronze medal in the four teams tournament held over the weekend at Togo. Police Ladies on Thursday, August 14, 2019 traveled to participate in their first ever international competition in Togo alongside other invited clubs to participate in a tournament which was under the High Patronage of Col.
Guy Kossi Akpovy and backed by the Federation of Togolese Football. The tournament which houses two native teams; Togolese Champions, Academie Amis Du Monde, winners of Academy of Togo trophie ETF 2018 Swallows FC, Burkinabe Champions Etincelles FC and Runner ups of the 2016-17 Ghana National Women’s League, “Police Ladies” was held at Stade De La JCA, Lome.
The four club competition was played on knockout rules, winner in group A faces winner of group B. Police Ladies played in group B match against Burkinabe champions Ettincelle FC and lost by 2 goals to 1, a consolation goal from Black Maidens winger Victoria Tei Williams.
The defeat meant they play losers of group A for a bronze medal tussle. The national women’s league side won their final match on penalty shootout after playing 1-1 with the host Academie Amis Du Monde, youngster Juanita Aguadze getting the goal for the service team from a well taken free kick from Constable Deborah Afrieyie to send the game into the penalty shootouts.
It was a first time a team from the NWL has participated in such a competition.
