Polish Premier League club Śląsk Wrocław launched a women’s team on Wednesday after acquiring Extraliga side KS AZS Wrocław.
KS AZS Wrocław is one of the most successful teams in the history of Polish women’s football.
In the first decade of the 21st century, the team has won eight Polish championships in a row.
Only the Black Sosnowiec team have won more trophies in Ekstraliga, who have won the championship title 12 times.
Although in Wrocław the male football team is of course very popular, it is worth remembering that the capital of Lower Silesia is the home of one of the most successful female football teams – KS ASZ Wrocław.
The club has entered the history of Polish women’s soccer in gold.
Literally, because they have won the national championship eight times.
They have also won the Polish Cup four times and played in the Uefa Women’s Champions League seven times.
However, KS ASZ Wrocław name will soon cease to exist when the Ekstraliga returns.
The deal will not affect the foundations on which KS AZS has so far been based.
In addition to the first team, reserves and youth players will also join the WKS GEM facilities at ul Mianowski, and Piotr Jagieła will still be the first coach.
