Chelsea supporters have taken to social media to express their feelings on Hakim Ziyech’s superb piece of skill in his team’s 7-0 win against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues ran riot against the Canaries in the opening game of the day on Saturday, in one of the most one-sided matches we are likely to see in the Premier League this season.
Ziyech perhaps would have been disappointed not to start for Chelsea considering the injuries Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner suffered in midweek, with Thomas Tuchel instead opting with Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz in his attacking trio.
The Morocco international, after coming on 70 minutes into the match, produced a brilliant piece of skill in the latter stages of the clash at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old midfielder, near the corner flag, poked the ball through the legs of Max Aarons, with some excellent touches – and Chelsea supporters were left in awe of the magic.
Ziyech has only featured three times in the Premier League so far this season, with the former Ajax playmaker making just one start under Tuchel, who recently explained why he has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues boss said: “He fought his way into the team, he was in the team in the beginning of the season because of performance, because it was so obvious after the pre-season that he has to be on the pitch.
“To start from there he was on the pitch, he scored and then had the injury in the Super Cup game and from there I felt that it cost him a lot because maybe even until today I don’t feel him 100 per cent free with his shoulders.
“Surely when we played him and made him play over 90 minutes, we started him several times after that, started him in Premier League and Champions League, I felt that even if it is maybe no pain, even if it is maybe subconscious, there is something that limits him in his movements and in his freedom to move to turn and to accelerate and decelerate and I think he needs time and patience to fight his way back into the team.
“That is the way it is. Looking for a spot while he was out, some other guys performed, even guys who came on from the pitch performed. He is one of our players and we will never lose trust and we will never lose patience with him. He will stay an important player.”
Ziyech will be hoping for some much-needed minutes on Tuesday night when Chelsea take on Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
