Raheem Sterling to Arsenal transfer: Man City talks, Barcelona interest, Pep Guardiola admission – Football.London

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling, according to reports.

The Daily Star reported over the weekend that the Gunners hold an interest in the England international, who has been left frustrated with the lack of game time at the Etihad Stadium this season so far.

Sterling was linked with a move to Arsenal over the summer transfer window and it seems as if Mikel Arteta and co. have reignited their interest in the speedy wide man.

With that being said, football.london has taken a close look at everything that has been reported on Sterling’s possible move to Arsenal.

Man City contract talks

Sterling has just less than two years remaining on his existing contract with Manchester City, and has already opened talks over an extension with the Premier League champions.

However, according to the Daily Star, negotiations over a new deal are they are ‘moving slowly’ because of the former Liverpool man’s wage demands and his struggle to cement a place in the first team at the Etihad.

The 26-year-old is said to earn £300,000-a-week in Manchester at the moment and is after another £50k before he puts pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the champions.

Barcelona in race

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have joined the race to sign Sterling, which could prove to be a blow for Arsenal.

The report from Spain claims that Barca, despite being in financial trouble at the moment, have the money available to be able to challenge for the Man City attacker’s signature.

City may be more willing to sell to Barca rather than a Premier League rival like the Gunners.

Guardiola gives advice

Man City boss Pep Guardiola told the press last month what Sterling needs to do to earn his place in the first team back.

Sterling has fallen out of favour under Guardiola in recent months, with the likes of Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez being preferred.

The City boss, speaking in mid-September, said: “Do you know how many incredible successes we had in the last seasons yeah? Impossible without Raheem. He’s such an important player.

“But I am here to tell them. He reached an incredible high standard and I have to tell him this is the standard we need, for you, for all of us.

“And I’m pretty sure he will get it. If he’s able to do it, he will do it. And I’m so optimistic that he will do a great season.”
