Manchester United defender Raphael Varane says the impending arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford will be a “great help” to everyone within Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
After confirming on Friday that they had reached an agreement with Juventus to re-sign the Portugal international, Ronaldo has since passed his medical in Lisbon to take him one step closer to securing his remarkable return to the club.
The deal is now at the stage where all of the formalities are being concluded, meaning it should, baring any last minute snags, get over the line in plenty of time ahead of the transfer window closing at 11pm on Tuesday evening.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s impending return to United has, of course, been met with a wave of excitement from not just the fans, but also the players, with, in the eyes of many, the greatest player of all-time set to grace the Premier League for a second time in his career.
But whilst there is going to be an expectancy on his shoulders to help United rise back to the top of the Premier League table, centre-back Varane, who played alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid, has outlined just how big an impact he could have on the rest of the team.
Varane told United’s website : “I am very happy. He’s a legend and all players can learn when you play with him.
“It’s a great help for all players, for all young players, and of course he never stops scoring goals, so he will help the team.”
Ronaldo is expected to arrive in Manchester next week and could make his second United debut when they face Newcastle United at Old Trafford on September 11.
Varane, meanwhile, made his own United debut on Sunday, starting the 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux and he was pleased with how his first outing in United colours went.
He added: “I was very, very happy to be here and to help the team get this victory. The feeling is absolutely amazing. The Premier League is very intense.
“The game, it’s very fast and you know when you play this game, you are very concentrated and it’s very intense. I came here for that feeling.”
