Raphael Varane could undergo his medical at Manchester United today.
Varane has been quarantining since he arrived in England with his family on Thursday, but the Manchester Evening News understands United are planning to conduct the 28-year-old’s medical today (Tuesday) if Varane returns a negative test for Covid-19.
The defender would then sign his contract on Wednesday morning at United’s Carrington training complex, where he would pose for unveiling shots ahead of a planned afternoon announcement.
Varane wants to start training on Wednesday in a bid to stake his claim for a starting role against Leeds in United’s Premier League opener on Saturday, although manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already suggested Varane will be on the bench.
Premier League clubs have to complete the signing of a player by 12pm on Friday in order for them to be eligible to play in the weekend fixture.
Jadon Sancho reported at United’s training complex on Monday and had individual sessions with a member of the club’s fitness staff.
The MEN revealed last week United had intended to complete the £43million signing of Varane by, or on Wednesday of this week.
Varane, his wife Camille and two young children have been staying at a gated estate owned by United in Cheshire, nicknamed ‘Covid Towers’. Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani temporarily resided at the residence around the time of their transfers.
