Robert Lewandowski proves Arsenal must do everything to fulfil Mikel Arteta’s £60m transfer wish – Football.London

Arsenal have been given an extra incentive to sign Dusan Vlahovic after it was revealed that he offers more to the team than Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe, according to Mikel Arteta’s play style.

As the Serbian forward continues to be heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, understands that the Gunners are pushing hard for the Fiorentina striker and would like to complete the signing in the January transfer window if possible.

The north London side is in desperate need of a striker, as there is set to be a major shortage in the attacking position with every forward at the club being linked with a move elsewhere.

Vlahovic has been the main target for Arsenal and when considering the fact that he has been known to offer more off the ball than some of the best forwards in the world, it’s clear to see why.

The 21-year-old has averaged nine pressures per game this season which is higher than Lewandowski, who has averaged eight, and Mbappe who does this seven times during a match.

Arteta likes to utilise a high-press so his team can regain possession of the ball in a swift manner, which creates a higher allowance of more sustainable attacks in the game.

However, the current crop of strikers at the Spaniard’s disposal are not renowned for their pressing ability. In particular, Alexandre Lacazette doesn’t have the speed of a player who can get around the pitch quick enough to start an effective press.

Martin Odegaard is usually the player to lead the team’s press with Lacazette following behind, however, with a forward who is agile enough to lead the line off the ball, it will give the team a better shape.

It is clear that Arteta believes Vlahovic is certainly the man for this role as the north London side must reportedly be prepared to spend £150million if they want to complete a move, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners are in desperate need of a striker, and with Eddie Nketiah looking likely to depart this month, It’s crucial Edu wraps something up sooner rather than later.
