Romelu Lukaku to get his dream shirt number at Chelsea if Marina Granovskaia seals £34m transfer – Football.London

Less than a month remains until the summer transfer window closes and Chelsea have made just one first-team signing so far.

Former Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli signed a two-year deal with the Champions League holders last month and will provide competition and cover to Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga next season.

The 29-year-old is not expected to be the only new arrival at Chelsea this summer with the club still being linked with moves for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde and West Ham United’s Declan Rice.

Although, the next signing could very well mark the return of a familiar face in Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.

According to Goal, the west London outfit are readying an offer of €130million (£110m) in the coming days for the Belgium international after seeing three bids rejected by the current Serie A champions.

Furthermore, in a boost for the Blues, the 28-year-old has reportedly informed Inter of his wish to return to the capital and has requested that any appropriate offer for him should be accepted.

If Lukaku does seal a return to west London, supporters will be looking forward to seeing the striker once again holding the Chelsea shirt at his unveiling – but what squad number could he take at Stamford Bridge?

Well, it would appear that Lukaku has one favoured option.

In the past four seasons, he has worn No.9 at both Manchester United and Inter, whilst he also wears No.9 for the Belgium national team – although he has worn No.10 for club and country in the past.

At Chelsea, the incumbent No.9 is Tammy Abraham, which could pose a problem to Lukaku.

However, that shirt number could soon become vacant as the striker has been tipped to leave this summer amid links to Arsenal, West Ham United and Southampton.

The latest team linked with the 23-year-old is Atalanta and, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are willing to sell abroad with the Serie A side said to be willing to offer £34m.

This means Lukaku could receive his favoured number if Marina Granovskaia makes the decision to sell Abraham to Atalanta or one of the aforementioned clubs this summer.
