Chelsea supporters have taken to Twitter to express their excitement about what N’Golo Kante did in the early stages of their pre-season friendly clash with Tottenham.
The France international, who has been exceptional since Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard in January earlier this year, played a key part in the Blues ‘ opening goal against Spurs at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel ‘s men took an early lead against Nuno Espirito Santo ‘s side in west London when Kante won a tackle in the centre of midfield, dispossessing Lucas Moura in the middle of the pitch before it fell to Hakim Ziyech, who drove forward and smashed the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Chelsea fans, taking to social media, were quick to lavish Kante in praise, with some even calling for the France midfielder to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.
Kante played a crucial role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in May and received praise from all angles for his performance in the final.
Former Blues winger Joe Cole said he was even better than ex-midfielder Claude Makelele.
Speaking on BT Sport, Cole said: “Kante’s staggering. I’m shattered just watching him. I played against him in one of my last games.
“I played with Makelele who I thought was the best until I saw this kid. He’s got Makelele plus extras.
“In the same way where a striker’s got that instinct in front of goal, he has got that in midfield. Gundogan, Silva and Foden couldn’t read it, Kante was just on it.”
