Tammy Abraham is set to leave Chelsea after reportedly agreeing a transfer to Roma on Saturday, as he appeared to wave goodbye to Blues fans at Stamford Bridge.
Abraham’s future has looked like it lies away from west London for some time, as he failed to find sufficient time in the first team following his breakthrough season under Frank Lampard.
The arrival of Timo Werner at Chelsea – and Lampard’s subsequent departure – have seen his chances diminish in the first team. As such, transfer interest has grown for the attacker.
Chelsea fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief as it seems that Jose Mourinho has been able to encourage the Abraham to snub Arsenal for his exciting project in Serie A with Roma.
It seemed that the deal could be in doubt for Abraham to move to Italy, but the latest reports indicate that Chelsea’s joint top scorer for last season has been convinced by the Portuguese that he will be the main heir to Edin Dzeko’s throne, with the Bosnian set to be Romelu Lukaku’s replacement for Inter Milan.
football.london understands that the deal Marina Granovskaia agreed to let the out of favour striker leave this summer for a fee believed to be around £34million.
The Athletic have now reported that general manager for the Serie A club Tiago Pinto flew to the capital for direct talks with Abraham’s camp to sell him the project and that plan has seemed to work.
The report goes on to clarify that Roma will pay the fee in instalments over the length of Abraham’s contract. He will earn a salary of €6million (£5.1million) per year net – considerably more than the £70,000-a-week he is on at Chelsea.
Chelsea look to be learning from past mistakes with the likes of Lukaku, and have inserted a buy-back clause worth around £68million if they do ever want to bring Abraham back to Stamford Bridge.
Hints were there that a deal was in the works behind the scene, and scenes at full-time after the Blues’ comfortable 3-0 win over Crystal Palace indicated to the fans that this would be the last they saw of the 23-year-old.

Abraham was seen waving to Chelsea fans as he completed a lap of the pitch with the rest of the squad, in what is likely to be his last appearance at Stamford Bridge as a Blues forward. He was then spotted heading out of Stamford Bridge with his suitcase all packed.
It is understood that that the striker will undergo his medical on Sunday morning with the deal to be announced in the next few days.
His goal in pre-season against Arsenal and his brief cameo against Tottenham were the last two showings.
