The Romelu Lukaku verdict that could worry Marina Granovskaia ahead of £110m Chelsea transfer – Football.London

Chelsea have been warned against signing Romelu Lukaku this summer.

The 28-year-old is now the Blues’ chief striker priority after appearing to finally admit defeat in their quest to sign Borussia Dortmund’s £150m-rated wonderkid Erling Haaland.

With less than a month until the summer transfer window closes, Chelsea are stepping up plans to improve Thomas Tuchel’s squad to a point where they can be considered genuine Premier League title contenders next season.

And signing one of Europe’s best centre-fowards is just what is needed to close the gap on champions Manchester City, while also posing a threat to Liverpool and Manchester United.

The good news for Chelsea fans is that Goal have reported that the club are readying an offer of €130million (£110m) in the coming days for Lukaku after seeing three bids rejected by Inter Milan.

Of course, the Belgium international is familiar with Blues having been on their books a decade ago before joining Everton permanently in the summer of 2014.

Three years later he joined Manchester United, but has spent the last two seasons in Italy with Inter Milan where he’s netted 47 goals in 72 Serie A appearances.

That sort of record would make Lukaku a sought-after striker for most clubs in Europe.

However, former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson doesn’t think a return to Stamford Bridge would be the best idea for the Belgium international due to the pace of the Premier League.

“I’m not so sure the Premier League suits Lukaku to be honest,” Johnson told Betting Odds. “Obviously he’s a big, powerful lad, quite physical but I just think the Premier League’s a bit too quick for him.

“So no, I wouldn’t like to see him return.

“But in certain leagues, he is going to get goals, albeit at a slightly slower pace.”

Johnson’s verdict may certainly worry some Chelsea fans and club director Marina Granovskaia about completing a £110m deal for Lukaku.

But Tuchel’s demands from his number nine makes the striker the perfect signing.

With Lukaku playing with his back to goal, the likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi can certainly benefit from any knockdowns or quick interplay in and around the box.
