Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has hinted that he wants any new arrivals to have a winning mentality ahead of a switch to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are yet to invest heavily in their squad since the German lifted the Champions League last season, with Marcus Bettinelli being the only addition so far having been brought in on a free transfer.
Answering questions from Chelsea supporters on the club’s official app, Tuchel has sent a thinly-veiled message to any future arrivals about their personal and team targets should the Blues pursue a move.
When asked which former Blues he would like to add to his current crop at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel replied: “Tough question! I work every day with Petr Cech and he’s great to have around, so I’ll choose Petr with all of his experience.
“He works here as a Technical Advisor but he also helps out sometimes with our goalkeepers and I think it would have been fun to have coached him as a player.
“I watched a documentary about him and Didier Drogba recently and both of them had such fantastic winning mentalities when they were playing, so focused and dedicated and for sure, they would be an asset to any team.”
Of course, the Chelsea squad has already experienced plenty of glory under the German. He masterminded the club’s second Champions League title, having run out victorious against Manchester City at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri continued that theme having lifted the Euro 2020 title with Italy.
Romelu Lukaku could add to that considerably having been a key reason behind Inter Milan ending their decade-long Serie A drought last season.
The former Chelsea striker has been heavily linked with a return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
