Thomas Tuchel provides injury update on Mason Mount and Edouard Mendy ahead of Man City clash – Football.London

Thomas Tuchel has ruled Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic out of Saturday’s clash with Manchester City.

Mount picked up an injury in the Carabao Cup victory over Aston Villa after replacing N’Golo Kante at half time, while Pulisic has not featured since returning from international duty.

Tuchel said: “Christian Pulisic is still out and for Mason Mount it is too soon. He has a minor injury from the Aston Villa game. He made a big step, huge progress, but it is not enough to be ready for tomorrow.”

Edouard Mendy and Timo Werner had been doubts for the game with the former being declared in a race to be fit for the match with City earlier in the week.

Mendy suffered a blow against Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Champions League and has since sat out of clashes with Tottenham and Aston Villa.

The Senegalese international and Werner have both been in training in the build up to the game however, with Tuchel confirming the goalkeeper would start against City.

Werner had some pain in his calf during the win over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup and did not take a penalty in the match as a result.

Mount managed to take one of his own, and Tuchel was surprised to discover the news the midfielder was injured.

The Blues boss said: “He’s very disappointed and didn’t feel it during the match. He played through the injury and finished the game. He was confident enough to take a penalty, an important penalty in the shootout so it was a bit of a surprise.

“The steps for recovery he is doing right now are huge. It would maybe be possible he played if the game was one day later.

“It is a minor injury but still it is a disappointment for him and us because he is a player that we count on. It is the same, no matter how much we rely on him, the task is to find solutions without him and bring him back as soon as possible.”
