Thomas Tuchel set for boost as Chelsea’s own ‘Maldini’ edges closer to significant decision – Football.London

Chelsea have been exceptional on the pitch since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in the dug-out in January with the German bringing the best out of a talented squad on a consistent basis.

The former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss has made them incredibly tough to beat, helping the west Londoners to a second Champions League title in the process.

In his 38 matches in charge, Chelsea have conceded just 23 goals and scored 59. A reliable back-three in Tuchel’s favoured 3-4-2-1 set-up has been key to that success.

This season has seen Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen favoured, the latter of whom has improved massively under UEFA’s manager of the year.

While Rudiger and Silva both found the net in the Blues’ 3-0 win against Tottenham on Sunday, Christensen’s performance still attracted plenty of praise, with fans even dubbing him the ‘Danish Maldini’.

The Denmark international’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season but it now looks likely that new agreement will be struck soon.

football.london understands that Christensen has been offered new terms at the club and they are keen to extend his stay after his upturn in form under Thomas Tuchel.

A further report from the Sun has detailed that the new deal will be worth £120,000 a week.

With five matches played, Chelsea sit joint top of the Premier League table with Liverpool, both clubs maintaining identical records so far.

But having played three of the ‘big six’ already, it is hard not to be more impressed with Tuchel’s men, who face another tough challenge this weekend in the form of reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
