DTigress backroom staff and invited Nigerian based Basketballer Murjanatu Musa will leave Nigeria for Belgrade on Friday for the second round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics female basketball qualifiers.
The was confirmed by the Nigerian basketball federation vice president Babs Oguntade on Thursday.
The delegation led by the vice president will board the Emirates airline via the Muritala Muhammad airport, Lagos by 6pm. He also noted that the Europe based players alongside the coach hughley Otis will be in camp on Saturday, 1st of February.
“We are leaving from Lagos and not Abuja. The player, the medical team, secretary are all on the same flight from Lagos.
“Those in the USA will be arriving in Belgrade with the coach. But as you know, most of them are playing professionally in Europe and so they will simply cross over to Belgrade on the agreed schedule.”
DTigress qualified for the second round after emerging winners alongside host Mozambique in the African category. They will slug it out in group A alongside host, Serbia, USA and African neighbor Mozambique.
From the draw made by FIBA on November 27 in Switzerland, a total of 10 teams would join USA (World Champions) and host country Japan from the different centres of the qualifiers. The other hosts of the qualifiers are China, France and Belgium.
D’Tigress will find their way back to the Olympic Games after making their debut at the Athens 2004 Olympics. They did not qualify for the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games.
