In the first game of the new U-20 women’s national team cycle, the USA fell, 2-1, to France in its first of two games at the 2018 Women’s Nike International Friendlies in Florida.
The US Under-20 Women’s National Team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 result to France in its opening match of the 2018 Women’s Nike International Friendlies.
France struck first and last goal in Florida, while the USA showed it mettle to initially equalize behind a goal from forward Samantha Kroeger just after halftime.
Samantha Kroeger lofted a shot from the left wing over French goalkeeper Justin Lerond in the 53rd minute to equalize France’s 22nd minute strike by Melvine Malard. But Malard struck again in the 77th minute to hand France the 2-1 victory.
The French out-shot the USA, 15-10. U.S. goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff was called on to make five saves while Lerond was credited with two.
