Bayern Munich Frauen advanced to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, despite coming up short on Wednesday against Göteborg FC. The Swedish visitors pipped Bayern to a 1-0 victory; however, the Bavarians advance 2-2 on aggregate thanks to away goals.
Jovana Damnjanovic almost gave Bayern the lead in the 31st minute. Ali Riley played a long ball into the Göteborg penalty area, and Damnjanovic battled through traffic to get a boot to it. The ball would strike off the post and bounce away to keep the match scoreless.
Rebecka Blomqvist scored the winner for Göteborg in the 80th minute. After Bayern failed to clear a corner kick, Blomqvist managed to poke home a goal. Bayern nearly equalized three minutes later when Linda Dallmann dribbled down the field and saw her shot smash off the crossbar.
Despite the result, Bayern have advanced to the Round of 16 thanks to their 2-1 victory in Sweden.
