Hosts, La Cote D’Ivoire became the first nation to secure a ticket to the finals of the ongoing WAFU competition with a 2-1 victory against Mali at the Robert Champroux stadium.

Runners-up last year, Cote D’Ivoire were on the verge of missing out on the finals at half time as Mali broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time through Bassira Traore.

The goalscoring pendulum swung in favour of Cote D’Ivoire as they equalized through Ange KoKo in the 73rd minute before Diakite Mariam broke Malian hearts with seven minutes left on the clock.

The hard fought win for the Elephants makes them the first nation to secure back-to-back finals.
