Head coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Thomas Dennerby has thrown light on the absence of his European players that clinched the AWCON.

Nigeria stamped their authority and underlined their superiority in women’s football with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Burkina Faso.

Despite the absence of notable names such as Barcelona’s Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie the Super Falcons ssoared in their opening match.

Speaking to NBSportslive after his side’s comprehensive victory, coach Thomas Dennerby explained the absence of the AWCON stars.

“Because, the leagues in Europe are running so they have to be with their teams because this [WAFU competition] is not FIFA friendly dates, so we are not allowed to bring them.”

Thomas Dennerby will expect a similar dose against underdogs Niger in their second group game at the Parc de Sports on Saturday, May 11.
