Wayne Rooney agrees with Tony Cascarino on Chelsea’s big threat to regain Premier League crown – Football.London

Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel are now undergoing their pre-season preparations ahead of the German coach’s first full campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues host Crystal Palace in just under three weeks’ time, hoping to get their Premier League season off to the perfect start in order to mount a serious title challenge.

Tuchel, who took over in west London following Frank Lampard‘s sacking in January, led his side to Champions League glory in May, and will be looking for domestic success next season.

However, Chelsea may have their work cut out, with their league rivals strengthening in the summer transfer window.

2019/20 champions Liverpool have already signed Ibrahima Konate, while Manchester United have recently sealed the £76million signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho was a long-term target for the Manchester-based club and is an exciting prospect for United supporters, so much so, that he has been tipped to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side win the Premier League title.

United finished second last season, but never really threatened Manchester City – with Pep Guardiola‘s side finishing 12 points above their neighbours.

Now, former Chelsea man Tony Cascarino has admitted that United could be a really strong outfit next season and challenge his old club in the race for the Premier League title.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “If you think of where City have improved, and Liverpool’s was pretty dramatic under Klopp, Tuchel coming in at Chelsea has made them an exceptional side… when you are coming from a long way behind, and they (United) were, seeing an improvement is a big thing.

“I think United last year showed their intent to get far closer, have they got enough to get over the line? No, I don’t think they have, but they can get very close to them.

“There’s been a definite improvement in their squad and the style of football they are playing.

“They’ve got a good back four now, I do think there is more to come from that midfield.

“They are an exciting team and have a very exciting forward line.

“Cavani is one hell of a player. We talk about Sancho going to the club and having other great players like Greenwood, who can contribute, and Fernandes.

“I think keeping Cavani for another year is a big signing. He does so many good things as a footballer.

“That old and young dynamic in a team works really well.”

Cascarino shares a very similar view to United legend Wayne Rooney, who believes his old side can bring the glory days back to Old Trafford next season.

Rooney said: “City, Chelsea the Champions League winners, Liverpool, there are some very good teams, but you can see with Manchester United they are getting gradually better.

“I think they will be in a place where they really will challenge next season.”
