Chelsea are in the midst of a busy summer transfer window as they attempt to bridge the gap between them and reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Thomas Tuchel has been primarily focused on offloading several members of their squad, with the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Victor Moses, Marc Guehi and Olivier Giroud all leaving Stamford Bridge on permanent deals.
However, they are yet to announce any incoming as of yet, as they continue their pursuit to bring in a world-class centre-forward to the club.
Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland remain at the top of the transfer shortlist and Blues supporters are convinced that their pursuit of the Norway international has been handed a boost – after Dutch forward Donyell Malen was already seen training with the Dortmund squad.
In a strange move by both sides, despite Malen not having officially joined Dortmund yet, PSV Eindhoven gave the striker permission to take part in training with the German side. With details still to be clarified, it won’t be until after then, that a transfer can be announced.
Chelsea fans then flocked to social media on Dortmund’s post of their soon-to-be striker training, to joke that Haaland will soon be training at their Cobham training ground. Here’s how a select number of fans reacted on Twitter to the news.
@DavidJulesDuke: “Give Haaland permission to train with Chelsea please.”
@JacobLines5: “Ok now announce Haaland.”
@TheGovernorofFT: “Yessss Haaland IN BOUND.”
@JakeBoyle0: “It’s happening. Welcome Erling.”
However, Dortmund’s Sebastian Kehl has dampened the current champions of Europe’s hopes of securing Haaland this summer, by insisting he is staying with the Bundesliga club.
Talking to Sky Germany, he said: “There is nothing new on this matter. He is in our plans. Erling will return this week and he will be very hungry. He wants to play football, he feels comfortable with us and he will be eager to score many goals.”
The 20-year-old boasts an incredible return since arriving with the German side back in January 2019, notching an eye-watering 57 goals in 59 appearances.
Furthermore, he has also shown that he is just as good when mixing it with Europe’s elite, bagging a whopping 20 UEFA Champions League goals in just 16 games.
