Chelsea fans can’t believe what defender Antonio Rudiger has done as the Blues hit three past their London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League.
Rudiger, 28, showed his class once again with his flawless display in the back three as he played a major part in ensuring Thomas Tuchel’s side picked up their fourth Premier League clean sheet already in the 2021/22 campaign.
Despite initial worries that the German international wouldn’t make the game due to issues surrounding a Covid-19 problem, he didn’t pass on the chance to score his first goal of the season against a tired Tottenham side in the second half.
Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler said during the game: “I should also mention that he [Rudiger] very nearly didn’t get into the game today because on his phone, the biometrics didn’t work that you have to pass to get through to the Covid check.
“Thankfully, they got the technology to work out and he is here.”
Manager Thomas Tuchel will certainly hope that the 28-year-old will be in London for the long-term with negotiations ongoing to try and get the defender tied down to a new and improved contract.
football.london understands that a host of clubs around Europe are monitoring the situation ahead of potentially poaching Rudiger on a free transfer next summer.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Tuchel said: “I hope that they find a solution but it’s not only between coaches and players. It’s between the club and the player’s agent.
“He plays excellent for a long time – very consistent [and] at a very high level. I feel him very calm, very focused and it’s obviously not a distraction for him.
“So give things time – sometimes it needs a bit longer, sometimes things get very fast. There’s no news from my side.”
As for the game and the centre-back’s ability to make crucial interceptions perfectly supplemented Tuchel’s game plan to keep it tight in the first half and go for it in the second period.
The brave and unorthodox substitution to bring on N’Golo Kante for Mason Mount opened the floodgates as the European Champions steamrolled their London rivals by netting three goals in the second 45 minutes.
Amid all the crazy celebrations that occurred after each goal found the net, Chelsea fans spotted their German centre-back mocking the north Londoners with his celebration after one of the goals.
Here is how a select number of Blues fans reacted on Reddit to what looked like an x-rated celebration.
@DuPoulet has excused his defender’s action here on this occasion: ‘If the FA asks he was just playing basketball.’
@AamirDogra can’t believe what Chelsea’s number 2 has done here: ‘I can’t anymore with this guy. True true hustler’
@too_many_backspaces has made a good point here: ‘Saw that and just burst out laughing. Typical player you love when in your team and just hate when on the opposite side!’
@ThatGuyBadIdeas has demanded: ‘Sign da ting.’
Finally, @Dawjman fears: ‘We are going to lose him I just know it.’
