What happened between Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in Chelsea training – Football.London

Chelsea step up their preparations for the new season with a friendly against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.

The Blues have already beaten Championship newcomers Peterborough United in a training match thus far, whilst there was an in-house match played last week as a result of their scheduled clash against Drogheda United being called off due to a COVID scare.

Therefore the trip to the south coast marks Chelsea‘s first official pre-season fixture as head coach Thomas Tuchel gets a chance to oversee how ready his players are for the new campaign.

Two players who will hope to be involved against Bournemouth are Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The latter is back at Chelsea following a season-long loan spell at Fulham, whilst the former is looking to push and nail down a regular starting spot after a full summer off.

However, before the game at the Vitality Stadium, there was a mini-battle between the pair at the club’s Cobham training base.

After sitting down for an interview with Chelsea TV, Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek were asked to compete against each other in the ‘Diego Maradona 7 challenge’.

The rules of the challenge were to move the ball between the two feet, knees, shoulders and head without allowing the ball to touch the ground.

At around the 6.25-minute mark, Loftus-Cheek starts his first attempt and immediately asks to start over.

Although, attempt two doesn’t go to plan either and he blames it on not wearing football boots.

From around the 6.52-minute mark, Hudson-Odoi steps in to show his teammate how it’s done and completes the challenge twice over to give him a 2-0 lead over Loftus-Cheek.

Luckily for the midfielder, he does manage to reduce the deficit by completing the challenge on his third attempt.
