What Thomas Tuchel has said about Tammy Abraham’s Chelsea future amid Haaland transfer swap – Football.London

Signing Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland is a top priority for Chelsea this summer.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel is desperate to bolster his attacking options ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign and Haaland is his number one target.

The Norway international, who netted a staggering 41 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund last term, is one of the very best young prospects on the planet and has no shortage of admirers across Europe, including in England and in Spain.

However, despite the continued interest in his signature, Dortmund are determined to retain the striker’s services this summer and not lose him. On the flip side, though, Dortmund may be wary of the release clause within Haaland’s contract that will come into effect next summer.

With that said, Dortmund would more than likely prefer to sell Haaland this summer for a much higher fee than what his release clause will amount to in a year’s time, even though they do not want to lose him at all.

Now, the Blues are ready to test the Bundesliga club’s resolve and launch a bid for the Leeds-born striker.

According to the Mirror, director Marina Granovskaia and boss Tuchel are lining up a ‘monster bid’ to lure Haaland to Stamford Bridge that includes striker Tammy Abraham. The England international has fallen down the pecking order in west London following Tuchel’s arrival in January and is unlikely to figure within the German’s plans in the forthcoming campaign.

But whilst Chelsea are prepared to offer Dortmund cash, plus Abraham, Dortmund are not keen on the idea. Chelsea value Abraham at around £50million, but the German outfit do not believe that is a realistic valuation for a player that has barely played this calendar year.

In total, Abraham has made just seven appearances since Tuchel took charge and the German did cast doubt over the former Aston Villa loanee’s future at Stamford Bridge ahead of the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace back in May.

The German said: “Tammy had a bit of a rough time. He started twice or three times and was twice substituted for tactical reasons at half-time.

“He could not have the impact he demands from himself and we wish from him. Then he was injured and lost a bit the connection and possibility to fight for his place in the squad.

“The squad has played very well without him, we’ve had a lot of results without him. Now we’re in the decisive part of the season where it’s not so easy to bring players who are injured into the shape.

“We have only three substitutions, which is a big, big thing. It’s a big handicap because three changes most of the time means you only have two because the last one is one you don’t want to lose too early.

“So circumstances are not easy but it’s on Tammy to do everything possible to let him out. We have a full squad now. We have 22 players on the training pitch and it’s very, very hard to select the 18 players for Premier League matches.”

With Dortmund not agreeing on Chelsea’s valuation of Abraham, the Blues may be forced to offload Abraham to an interested party and, potentially, use the money earned from his departure to fund a straight cash deal for Haaland.
