What Tottenham fans can expect from Nuno Espirito Santo’s first team selection vs Leyton Orient – Football.London

Fans will get their first glimpse of Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham team this afternoon as they start their pre-season friendlies with an away game at Leyton Orient.

Making the short trip across the capital to The Breyer Group Stadium, Spurs will then come up against more EFL opposition before the month is out with trips to Colchester United and MK Dons on the agenda.

Important games for all those currently at Spurs as they look to catch the head coach’s eye ahead of the Premier League opener vs Man City, Espirito Santo will be without a number of first-team stars due to their participation in this summer’s major tournaments.

However, the likes of Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela have all been training at Hotspur Way since the first day back almost two weeks ago.

Adding a host of talented academy stars to his sessions to help boost the numbers, the 47-year-old will more than likely select a nice blend of youth and experience in his XI as he looks to take a good look at all his players.

Speaking to the media as Tottenham head coach for the first time on Friday afternoon, Espirito Santo was asked by football.london about his squad for the Leyton Orient game and he revealed that he unfortunately wouldn’t have a big squad for the encounter in east London.

“No, unfortunately no. I wish I had more,” he explained. “We have to mix. We have to wait for the international players to return.

“They are gradually returning, each one on his date, but we are with the U23s and we are balancing things so we can measure the times of the game not put anyone in danger because it’s been a hard week of training sessions.”

Two players who could be given minutes against The O’s are Oliver Skipp and Ryan Sessegnon after successful loan spells away from the club in 2020/21.

Asked by football.london if the duo are in his plans for the new term, the Portuguese’s answer will have gone down well with all the club’s youngsters as they look to make the step up to the first team and become regulars.

“Every player in the squad is in my plans,” he added. “Every player, every player.

“Even the U23s who are working with us are in my plans, because this is how we build a strong group, because everyone is going to be needed.”
