When is the World Cup 2022? Dates and schedule including England fixtures – Football.London

The next few months will be dominated by talk of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with the tournament set to take place in the Middle East later this year.

It is the first time that the traditional September-May European football season will be interrupted to accommodate the tournament and it is the source of huge controversy. This week, the Guardian have revealed further alleged mistreatment of migrant workers with all 32 teams are set to compete in the tournament which gets underway in just two months’ time.

England have revealed that captain Harry Kane will wear a ‘One Love’ armband, joining other European teams’ captains in their anti-discrimination gesture ahead of the tournament. This is in protest to laws in the country which prohibit homosexuality.

On the pitch, England will be hoping to build on two strong major tournaments under the management of Gareth Southgate and will hope to go one better from their penalty shootout defeat to Italy in the final of Euro 2020 and win the competition which has eluded them since 1966.

They will face strong competition from holders France, with Argentina, Brazil and Germany also resurgent in recent years. Spain, Netherlands and Belgium will also provide a tough test for Southgate and his young side.

Here are all of the key dates you will need ahead of the tournament:
