William Saliba reveals France World Cup dream amid Thomas Frank praise – Football.London

William Saliba’s recent performances for Arsenal have done his World Cup chances no harm. The defender has been recognised for his stellar displays with the Gunners this season, as he has been called up to France’s squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.

The 21-year-old has been capped five times by the French national team and is set to add to that total when France face Austria and Denmark this week. Saliba faces stiff competition in the centre-back department, with Raphael Varane, Dayot Upamecano and Jules Kounde all battling for a spot in Didier Deschamps side, but the Arsenal defender says it’s his ‘dream’ to start at the World Cup.

Saliba has certainly done his chance of starting in Qatar no harm with his performances for Arsenal. The centre-back has scored two goals this season and has been part of an Arsenal that has been conceded one goal or less in five of their seven Premier League matches.

“My dream is to play at the World Cup with my country,” Saliba told Sky Sports.

“I hope I will be in the team at the World Cup.”

Somebody who is backing Saliba to start for the reigning world champions is Brentford boss Thomas Frank. Despite having not trained in the lead-up to the match, Saliba put in a masterclass against the Bees, scoring the opening goal in the 3-0 win.

“I must say Saliba, he’s going to be a full international player for France, I’m sure,” Frank said. “He’ll play in the starting line-up for that team and that’s a strong international team.”
