Wolves vs Tottenham prediction: Harry Kane to guide Spurs to next round of Carabao Cup – Football.London

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Wolves for the second time in as many months in the Carabao Cup.

It is Wolves who are the narrow favourites, according to bookies Grosvenor Sport, at 7/5 odds after 90 minutes with Spurs just behind at 2/1 and a draw is 11/5.

The bookies have also priced the hosts as the favourites to go through in the tie at 7/10 with Spurs at 11/10.

It is fair to say the international break has not been kind to Spurs as the north London club are yet to get a win in September – a stark contrast to the form in August which saw Nuno Espirito Santo win Manager of the Month.

Since then, they are yet to pick up a point in the league and could only get a draw away in France against Stade Rennais in the Europa Conference League.

They will need to respond swiftly and face a Wolves side who are struggling to life without their former boss.

Team stats

Issues in attack and defence need to be addressed by Santo with his side currently coming off the back of consecutive 3-0 domestic defeats.

They currently average a goal per game but have only scored two in their last three games in all competitions and conceded eight at the same time.

Compare that to before the first international break and they only conceded one goal and scored six in five matches.

Tottenham have seen a total of 81 corners so far this season at an average of 10.13 per match – over 9.5 total corners is 9/5.

In terms of discipline, Spurs have been involved in 31 total bookings this season in all competitions.

Player stats

Son Heung-min still the club’s top scorer this season with two goals at an average of a goal every other game while Harry Kane is yet to find the net in this domestic season.

The England captain’s only goals came from a brace against Faros de Perreira in the Europa Conference League qualifier.

Post-Santo Wolves does not make for great reading judging by their league form this season.

Only Korean striker Hwang Hee-chan has scored for Wolves – the only other Premier League goal coming from when Francisco Sierralta scored an own goal for Watford.

The former RB Leipzig forward is 5/2 to score anytime.

H2H

This will be the 101st match between the two sides and only the fourth time the sides have met in the EFL Cup.

Overall, Spurs have the better win record winning 50 meetings to Wolves’ 29 but each side have only picked up a win each in the first 90 minutes whenever they have met in the cup.

It is the first time the two sides have met in the competition since December 1972.

Form

Spurs will be looking to find their first win since the international break having picked up back-to-back defeats in the league a drawing away at Stade Rennais.

Wolves have only picked up two wins in all competitions so far this season – against Nottingham Forest in the second round of the EFL Cup and away at Watford.

They are yet to get a result at Molineux this season and under new boss Bruno Lage.
