Private legal practitioner and Women’s League Board Member, Cleopatra Nketiah has lauded the Youth Employment Agency’s initiative to pay GHS 500 to every player amid the coronavirus pandemic.
It will be recalled that the Ghana Football Association reached a consensus to enrol players in the Women’s Premier League on the YEA Programme. A total of 480 players will be paid GHS 500as monthly allowance for six months beginning from this month.
Sharing her opinion on the initiative, the co-owner of Ridge City FC told Sheikh Tophic Sienu on the GH Footy Show,
“It’s a laudable initiative by the government. That is what YEA are they for. Even some of the men Footballers don’t get ¢500 a month.
“So it will help us a lot. We shouldn’t treat football like it’s something secret. Those ladies playing football are also youth and a good initiative like this can go a long way to help the clubs.
“Though the government said 6 months to test waters I’m sure it will continue after the six months,” she ended.
The initiative will help alleviate the already financially distressed female footballers in the country.
