Chelsea Women complete amazing three-minute, two-goal comeback against Manchester City Women

Going up against one of the three current Women’s Super League contenders in Manchester City, Chelsea were not meant to have a walk at the park  at the Kingsmeadow.

A cagey first-half for the two sides went to show why they are fighting neck and neck for first place in England’s top league.

Despite their home advantage, it was Manchester City who got the opening goal with midfielder Caroline Weir at the second-half on minute 58. That however would not hold Chelsea down, as the women in Blue kept on fighting for the three points.

Later on, they got a comeback in stupendous fashion, with goals from striker Bethany England and midfielder Maren Mjelde in a three-minute interval!

Then it was “only” a matter of holding down the 2-1 scoreline. Superb efforts from players such as Erin Cuthbert and Drew Spence kept the ball away from their defensive third. City were still able to threaten with a late goal, but their last chance at the last minute of the match was cleared off the line.

With that, Chelsea remain unbeaten in the WSL, with 22 points and one game in hand — since they did not play against Everton last weekend. They remain in a very strong position in the fight for the WSL trophy this season.
